Artist Statement: Good stories are why anyone cares, or at least why they pay attention. My artwork sanctifies these stories through unconventional means, allowing for authenticity. Through multimedia experimentation, I create vibrant abstract paintings in the midst of janky structures that dive into human experiences depicting external and internal conflicts. My voice discloses these stories without description, through punched expletives and meaningless scribbles of unconscious thought. These elements interplay with one another into the uncomfortable surreal reality my work inhabits. It’s all true, but none of it happened. It's just a good story.

Artist Biography: Ravi Kai Buschman, known informally as the “Janky Artist”, is a painter and sculptor from Albuquerque New Mexico. Buschman uses a lot of found, reclaimed, and unorthodox materials in his work; such as scrap wood and metal, old reclaimed drop cloths, and traditional house paint to create janky structures. His artwork touches on the complexity of stories, using internal and external contexts as inspirations. His inspirations for his art are artists Phillip Guston, Jean Michel-Basquiat, Stanley Donwood, and Nari Ward.
